Hi, I'm Hannah
I consider myself an unconventional wellness practitioner who strives to create authenticity and awareness on and off the yoga mat. I believe in letting go of the "woo-woo" that so often permeates wellness spaces and instead, keeping the sole focus on underlying trauma and addictive patterns that have brought the body into dysregulation. My intention is to foster bodily awareness and nervous system resilience through various somatic practices to re-establish a sense of safety within the body and increase the body's capacity to experience stress. By exploring our innate survival mechanisms, we can learn how to rewire our nervous system and flow in and out of our survival responses with greater ease.

So often, trauma and addiction can create a disconnect within the body and cause a myriad of unwanted somatic and visceral responses. While I do offer trauma-informed yoga classes and may incorporate gentle yoga movements into my somatic coaching sessions, I do not align with yoga as an ideology, but as a path of somatic practice towards reconnection with the traumatized body. I do not follow any guru or dogma within my yoga practice or sessions. I simply act as a guide while encouraging my clients to listen to their body and the innate wisdom from within.
HOW DO ADDICTION AND TRAUMA IMPACT THE NERVOUS SYSTEM?
Our nervous system is an incredible innate survival mechanism, finely tuned over thousands of years to help our ancestors navigate a world full of danger. When early humans faced threats like hunting wild animals or escaping predators, their nervous system would automatically activate survival responses to protect them. These instinctive reactions, driven by the autonomic nervous system, ensured they could respond quickly and effectively to life-threatening situations.

The autonomic nervous system is designed to help us respond to threats and restore balance once safety is regained. It is inherently designed to protect us.
While we no longer face the same primal dangers, a dysregulated nervous system still operates in much the same way, often reacting to modern stressors as if they were life-or-death scenarios - keeping us in survival mode. These survival responses make it difficult to self-regulate, connect with others, or feel safe in our own body.

When addiction enters the cycle, it intensifies this dysregulation.
Addiction often emerges as an attempt to manage the unrelenting tension of a dysregulated nervous system. Substances or behaviors provide a temporary escape, numbing the pain or quieting the chaos within. But over time, addiction further destabilizes the nervous system, creating a cycle of dependency and deeper dysregulation. It’s not a failure of willpower—it’s the nervous system’s way of grasping for safety.
WHAT IS A SOMATIC APPROACH?
SOMA is a word of ancient Greek origin meaning "body". Unlike approaches that focus solely on thoughts or emotions (top-down approaches), somatic work connects the mind and body (bottom-up approach). It’s about noticing how stress, trauma, or emotions show up physically—like tension in the shoulders, a racing heart, tremors, or shallow breathing—and gently working with our body to support the nervous system, create a felt sense of safety, and eventually overcome these physical symptoms.

Approximately 80% of information moves from the body to the brain, while only 20% flows from the brain to the body. This is what makes this method so effective—shifting patterns in the body directly impacts and reshapes the way the brain responds.

WHY A SOMATIC APPROACH MATTERS:
The Autonomic Nervous System functions below the level of conscious thought and doesn’t interpret spoken or cognitive language. This is why we can’t rely on talking alone to change how we feel. To shift dysregulation, we must engage with the body’s natural somatic language—the way the nervous system truly communicates.
A dysregulated nervous system can leave one feeling:
- Easily triggered by small stressors
- Stuck in cycles of anxiety, burnout, or fatigue
- Disconnected from emotions or the body
- Chronic muscle tension
- Emotional overwhelm or reactivity
- Unable to focus or concentrate
Somatic healing helps with navigating these responses and addressing these disruptions at the root. By engaging the body in the healing process, we can gently retrain the nervous system to recognize safety and create new pathways for regulation and resilience.
MY APPROACH TO RECOVERY COACHING
My recovery coaching approach is centered on self-empowerment through a trauma-informed lens—without the coddling—that emphasizes accountability in your sobriety goals.

I offer weekly check-ins, relapse prevention strategies, and access to resources, all combined with a mindfulness-based addiction recovery (MBAR) approach.
Tailored to each individual’s unique needs and goals, my holistic approach supports both harm reduction and complete abstinence—meeting you exactly where you are. Throughout the process, I provide compassionate, non-judgmental support to guide you on your recovery journey.

Addiction can manifest in various forms, and I’m here to support you in navigating and overcoming substance-related addictions, whether involving alcohol or other drugs. I do not currently offer recovery coaching sessions for process addictions such as those related to sex, food, or gambling. For individuals dealing with these challenges, I can offer somatic coaching sessions to address potential underlying causes, such as trauma or nervous system dysregulation.
